What makes a Great Mentoring Experience?

 What helps turn a mentoring connection into a meaningful and rewarding experience? Join Angela Mensah, Brittany Luke, and Katharine Perkin, mentors in the 2025–2026 1:1 Mentoring Program, for a conversation about best practices, lessons learned, and insights from their experiences.
Whether you are a mentor or mentee, just getting started or looking for new ideas along the way, this informal conversation will offer practical tips and inspiration for building meaningful connections and making the most of your mentoring experience. There will also be time for questions and conversation with our featured mentors.

Mentor Bios:

Mentors: Angela Mansah, Brittany Luke, Katharine PerkinBrittany Luke is a GIS Analyst supporting CDC public health programs. She earned her MS in Spatial Data Science from Pennsylvania State University and holds both GISP and Part 107 sUAS certifications. A former teacher who values education and advancement in the geospatial field, she has spent the past two years mentoring and volunteering with the Women in GIS mentorship committee. 

Katharine Perkin is a GIS Manager currently finishing a GIS Master's degree at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. Her academic research focuses on automating and updating LiDAR based terrain analyses. In her free time, she loves visiting art galleries and botanical gardens. 

Angela Mensah is an incoming Survey Coordinator at Bechtel, with a background spanning field surveying, 3D modeling, geolocation data collection, and civil support at Black & Veatch. She holds an M.S. in Geographic Information Science and Cartography from Michigan Technological University and is returning for her second consecutive year as a Women in GIS mentor.
